i know this is a little off from what we usually do here on Bargainmoose but I think everyone should know about it! Star Kingdoms is a browser-based game. No, not a flash game you play in the browser. This is a text-based game. I know, I know. No fancy graphics, no visuals, how good can it be? Well, from someone who has been playing Star Kingdoms since 2001, I can tell you it is amazing. So essentially you start out as a little kingdom with 250 planets in a sector with a bunch of other people. You will start to make money, which you can use to explore, train troops, build buildings, and research new technologies. To perform these tasks you are presented with a screen that shows how many troops, buildings, planets or research points you have, how many you can make and a box to input how many you want to make.

It is a very tough game to explain and make sound exciting on it’s own but trust me, it’s awesome. The real reason the game is so great though is due more to its social aspects. There are real political issues and interpersonal relationships that you have to cope with in the game. On top of that, there is always someone bigger than you so you’re always striving to get better and bigger faster than the other guys.

So if you think you’d dig this game at all, come on over and join. The game is currently a few weeks into this round and it is as fun as ever. When you’ve just started a new relationship, credit card debt and bond funds are probably the last things you want to talk about when you’re enjoying a sunset picnic. A great book to consider reading when you’ve started dating someone new is First Comes Love, Then Comes Money by Bethany and Scott Palmer. In their book they discuss a few different money personalities, such as the saver and the spender. You may be a saver who works hard for your money and takes pride in seeing her savings grow every paycheque, but what if your new boyfriend is a spender who can’t control his shopaholic ways? This guy may have every box ticked on your potential husband list, but is it worth marrying someone who could potentially drive you both into bankruptcy? Or perhaps the roles are reversed, and every week you look forward to checking out what’s new at the mall, whereas your boyfriend refuses to spend the extra dollar for a coffee at Starbucks because McDonalds is cheaper. Could you live with his constant judgment of your spending habits and his strict frugality?

It’s common knowledge that one of the main things couples argue about is money, and a lot of that stems from lack of trust and secrecy. If you have a joint account with your boyfriend but don’t trust his money management skills, he may take that to mean you don’t trust him entirely. If you feel the urge to hide your latest purchases from him for fear of discovery, that’s almost equal to flat out lying to his face. Trust, honesty, and communication are the three pillars of a healthy relationship, and making sure you and your partner are both open about your finances is part and parcel.

I’m not suggesting you swap bank account passwords with your new beau right away, but discussing your opinions on managing money in the first few months of dating will definitely help you determine whether you can build a future together. Can you see yourself buying a house, sharing a credit card, or paying your bills with him? If the answer is no, then it might be time to say goodbye to your bass guitarist lover and start a new search for a more financially compatible soul mate.

Saints Row: The Third is the focus of this sale and from everything I have read about it (and the series itself) it is a fantastic game. The ratings on MetaCritic are currently at 84/100. GamersGate is offering the downloadable PC version of the game. It should be noted that this game is rated M.

Saints Row is (and I know I’m going to get flamed for this comment so bring it on!) essentially a Grand Theft Auto clone. It’s a sandbox style game, which means you have full reign over a city. You can run or drive around aimlessly for hours if you really want to. Of course you have goals in the game but part of the fun is just running around messing around. The big difference between the Saints Row series and the GTA series is that GTA strived more to be a simulation than Saints Row does. Saints Row is way more over the top and it isn’t overly concerned with the natural laws of this world. There are also gameplay changes, which makes this a different experience than GTA.

I liked the way Brian Ferrell, THQ’s CEO, put it in an earnings call when asked about GTA V:

I went online like everyone to see the GTA trailer. As you point out, it’s a high quality trailer and I think it’s going to be another fantastic game in the GTA series. That said, it also shows the completely different positioning of the two games. GTA is still serious and character driven – a very different experience. Saints Row – if you saw our video today – it shows you all the crazy stuff in the game. It’s a totally different positioning, and if you read the forums it’s like ‘hey, I love GTA, and I love this game because it’s a very different game that knows what it is and is very entertaining.

To be honest I kind of hate describing a game by comparing it to another game but it seems that this phenomenon is kind of the norm for this game. If it’s good enough for THQ’s CEO, it’s good enough for Bargainmoose!

I have loved Slurpees ever since I was a kid. I would get the biggest size my parents would allow me to have, and then layer in all the different flavours. I don’t own any RuMe bags, but I do use reusable bags all the time.
